Hydroponic, indoor and greenhouse CBD flowers: what is the difference?
In our CBD flowers section you will see words like hydroponic, indoor or greenhouse. It is not just marketing: the way a plant is grown has a big impact on the flower you take home. Here is a simple explanation.
Hydroponic growing
In hydroponics the plant does not grow in soil. Its roots sit in an inert medium (coco fibre, rockwool, clay pebbles…) and are fed with water and nutrients in carefully measured amounts. Everything happens indoors, under artificial light, with temperature and humidity under tight control.
The result is usually very compact buds with plenty of visible resin and an intense aroma. It is the most technical method and needs the most care, so it is usually the most expensive. Our HiiCBD hydroponic Small Buds (Blueberry, Alien Fruit, Northern Lights, Frosted and Amnesia) are grown this way.
Indoor growing in soil
Also grown under a roof with artificial light, but in pots with soil. The environment is controlled just like in hydroponics, while feeding is more natural. Indoor flowers tend to be dense and aromatic, with a slightly more "earthy" profile.
Greenhouse growing
A greenhouse brings together the best of both worlds: the plant gets natural sunlight while being protected from wind, rain and pests. Greenhouse flowers usually look more natural, have a softer aroma and offer great value for money.
What are Big Buds and Small Buds?
It is a size grading. Big Buds are the largest, showiest buds of the harvest; Small Buds are smaller buds from the same plants. Same genetics and quality, lower price.
Quick summary
- Hydroponic: maximum density, resin and aroma. Highest price.
- Indoor in soil: dense and aromatic, more natural profile.
- Greenhouse: sunlight, soft aroma and great value.
