How to store CBD flowers so they keep their aroma
A good CBD flower stands out for its aroma, colour and texture. But if it is not stored properly, in a few weeks it can dry out, lose its smell or even spoil. The good news: storing it well is easy.
1. An airtight container (glass is best)
Air is the main enemy: it dries the flower and makes the terpenes, which give it its aroma, evaporate. Ideally use a glass jar with an airtight lid. Avoid thin plastic bags for long-term storage: they let air through and static makes the resin stick to the plastic.
2. Darkness
Light, especially direct sunlight, breaks down cannabinoids and terpenes. Keep the jar in a cupboard or drawer, or use dark or amber glass.
3. Cool, stable temperature
Choose a cool spot without sudden temperature changes, away from radiators, ovens or windows. Heat speeds up aroma loss and temperature swings cause condensation inside the jar.
4. The right humidity
Not too dry, not too damp. Too dry and the flower becomes brittle and loses aroma; too damp and mould can appear. Humidity control packs placed inside the jar keep the right level for months.
5. Open it as little as possible
Every time you open the jar, fresh air gets in. If you buy a large size, split it into several small jars and open only the one you need.
How long does a well-stored flower last?
Following these tips, a CBD flower can keep its look and much of its aroma for several months. If it smells musty or you see white or grey spots, throw it away.
In our shop we can recommend jars and humidity packs. And all our CBD flowers are shipped in discreet packaging within 48/72 hours.
