CBD cosmetics: hemp gels, balms and creams

CBD cosmetics combine two things: the usual ingredients of a gel or cream and extracts from the hemp plant. They are for external use, applied to the skin, and have no psychoactive effect.

1. CBD, CBG and hemp seed oil

  • CBD (cannabidiol): the best-known hemp compound. Some products state the amount, for example 1,800 mg in a bottle of gel.
  • CBG (cannabigerol): another hemp compound increasingly found in cosmetics, often alongside CBD.
  • Hemp seed oil: pressed from the seeds, very nourishing for the skin and the base of many products, although on its own it does not provide CBD.

2. Types of products

  • Massage gels: light texture that absorbs quickly. There are warming versions and versions with menthol for a cooling feel. Popular for a massage after sport or at the end of the day.
  • Balms: richer, ideal for longer massages or dry areas.
  • Creams: to moisturise and care for your skin every day.
  • Body oil: for massage, bath or hair.
  • Hygiene: for example, hemp toothpaste.

3. Organic or conventional

Some lines carry an organic cosmetics certification, which guarantees organically grown ingredients and a controlled process. If it matters to you, look for the label on the pack.

4. Tips for use

  • Always follow the manufacturer's directions.
  • If you have sensitive skin, try it on a small area first.
  • Do not apply to wounds or mucous membranes unless the product is designed for it.
  • Keep it closed and away from heat.
